Kapamilya Actor Jericho Rosales bagged the Best Actor/Outstanding Acting Achievement award in the recently concluded Newport Beach Film Festival held from April 25 to May 2 in Los Angeles. He was recognized by the California-based international film festival for his performance in Alagwa (Breakaway), which he also co-produced.
It was Rosales’ second win at the Newport Beach Film Festival, the first one was in 2011 when he bagged the same award for Subject: I Love You, a US indie film based on the ILOVEYOU computer virus.

Alagwa has been making the rounds in numerous international film festivals including the 17th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, 24th Palm Springs International Film Festival in the US and the first ASEAN International Film Festival in Malaysia where Rosales was nominated for the Best Actor plum.
Rosales has sacrificed a lot to personally attend each film festival including giving up a role in Against All Odds (retitled to Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala), an upcoming teleserye on ABS-CBN starring Judy Ann Santos and KC Concepcion.
Alagwa was first screened at the 2012 Cinema One Originals Film Festival where it earned nominations for several categories in various local award giving bodies. It has won five awards in the recent Star Awards for Movies, including Indie Movie of the Year, Indie Director of the Year (Ian Lorenos) and Child Performer of the Year (Bugoy Cariño). It has also earned nominations at the upcoming 36th Gawad Urian, including Best Actor for Rosales and Best Director for Lorenos.
Rosales reportedly plans to screen Alagwa to Manila theaters soon.
